Supporting the Camden community

Youth unemployment is high in Camden – in June 2013, about 700 18-24-year-olds were claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance. In addition 7% of 16-18 year olds were not in employment, education or training.

Unemployment among the rest of the Camden population is also high – in May 2013, over 4,700 residents claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance. Around 1,500 Camden residents have been unemployed for over a year.

An estimated 15,000 Camden residents have no qualifications. It’s tough out there. Job seekers need support and opportunities to increase their skills so they can enter the competitive London job market.

6,796 (60%) pupils in Camden primary schools and 4,731 (47%) pupils in Camden secondary schools (January 2008) had English as an additional language.

Voluntary and community organisations who support vulnerable people have had funding cuts and need a wide range of support to make sure they can keep their organisations going and helping the most vulnerable Camden residents.

Our headquarters

As well as being one of Camden’s most accessible leisure centres, Five Pancras Square is also one of the greenest public buildings in the UK. It is one of the first inner-city buildings in the UK to achieve a BREEAM ‘Oustanding’ sustainability rating. An energy efficient ventilation system and solar panels ensure low carbon emissions and reduced running costs.

The facility houses a state-of-the-art leisure centre with two pools and a fitness centre, a library and café as well as the Council’s customer access centre and administrative offices.
