World Friendship Day is promoted by the UN as part of their mission to build trust and camaraderie around the world. It has been held annually on 30th July every year since 2011 and serves as an occasion for everyone to celebrate the bonds with their friends.
While friendship in the workplace was once frowned upon, employers are now realising the strength of good relationships at work. A great team that trusts each other and works well together is far more productive than one that doesn’t.
After all, we often spend more time with our colleagues than we do with our loved ones. It is important to ensure that employees are happy with their co-workers.
Employers can promote productive friendships in the office by:
- Creating more shared experiences such as lunches, excursions, or team building days
- Offering plenty of collaboration opportunities for people to work together
- Encourage monthly social meetings with different activities
- Start up a buddy system to pair newcomers with outgoing members of staff
We believe that having friends at work can make challenging times much easier to manage for both employers and employees.
