The need to focus on the pipeline of female talent is apparent, with Semta predicting the need to train and retain an additional 82,000 scientists, engineers and technologists by 2016, to cope with growth and to plug skills lost through retirement. Ensuring that women are equipped with the tools to succeed in their careers is vital. The Academy will focus on personal development – an essential consideration for any woman wishing to advance her career. Research commissioned by Alexander Mann Solutions and everywoman in 2012 found that although 80% of female middle managers wanted to progress, they did not prioritise their own training and development. The research also highlighted that STEM has the highest number female middle managers who wanted to progress (80%).
