Black History Month

Black History Month was first celebrated in the United Kingdom in 1987. It was organized through the leadership of Ghanaian analyst Akyaaba Addai-Sebo, who had served as a coordinator of special projects for the Greater London Council and created a collaboration to get it underway.

Today Black History Month is celebrated in the month of October around the world as a month of awareness for black history, heritage, culture and recognition for the achievements and advancements of the people of the Black community.

During Black History Month, we also remember and celebrate important figures from the past who helped in the fight for race equality, such as Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks.
