We regulate the TV, Radio and video on demand sectors, fixed line telecoms, mobiles, postal services, plus the airwaves over which wireless devices operate.  Accountable to Parliament, we set and enforce regulatory rules for the sectors for which we have responsibility. We also have powers to enforce competition law in those sectors, alongside the Competition and Markets Authority.

We make sure that people in the UK get the best from their communications services and are protected from scams and sharp practices, while ensuring that competition can thrive. Ofcom is funded by fees from industry for regulating broadcasting and communications networks, and grant-in-aid from the Government.

Right now, people are changing their attitudes and preferences, and amazing technology is changing our experiences and expectations of communications.

This is an exciting time to be at the heart of this fast-moving sector. You can be part of it. Come and find out more about working for Ofcom.

“At Ofcom we are determined to do all we can to promote diversity and equality inside our organisation and in the wider sectors we regulate. Ofcom’s goal is to make communications work for everyone. To help us achieve this goal for all UK consumers and citizens it is essential that all levels of our organisation are diverse and foster an inclusive culture”.

More about Ofcom

At Ofcom we are determined to do all we can to promote diversity and equality inside our organisation and in the wider sectors we regulate.

Our Values

Diversity and equality is fundamental to Ofcom achieving its organisational purpose of making communications work for everyone. To help us with our work in promoting choice, securing standards and preventing harm, we need to make the best decisions for all UK consumers and citizens.

To do this, it is essential that all levels of our organisation are diverse and foster an inclusive culture.

We will achieve this by adopting our values:

We publicly and regularly report on our commitment, progress and strategic objectives within diversity and equality through our Single Equality Scheme, found at the bottom of this page.

The Single Equality Scheme explains how diversity and equality are essential to the way we operate, both as an employer and as the UK’s communications regulator. It outlines our Action Plan, including a detailed account of our objectives and programme of work.

To help us determine the strategic priorities and objectives within the Single Equality Scheme we conduct an annual Diversity Report on the profile of Ofcom colleagues and processes.

We monitor our policies and practices extensively through colleague surveys, benchmarking and a biennial equal pay audit. We update the Ofcom Board and Policy Management Board on the progress of various initiatives under the Diversity and Equality work programmes.
