Northumbria University

Northumbria is a research-intensive university that unlocks potential for all. We change lives through education and research, tackling the global challenges of our age to transform society.

Northumbria has transformed in recent years combining a focus on research excellence and social mobility, challenging the status quo to become a new kind of University.

Working closely with business, cultural organisations and government gives a real world focus to Northumbria’s teaching and research.

Partnership working means that our research has the maximum impact, allowing us to apply knowledge to help businesses and other organisations to develop and grow. It also informs our teaching, preparing our students for employment.

We work with an array of companies and organisations - small and medium firms, major multinationals and key parts of the public sector. This includes Nike, IBM, Nissan, Procter & Gamble, Santander, the BBC, and the NHS. More than 560 employers and 60 professional bodies sponsor or  accredit the University’s programmes.

Our outstanding cultural partnerships in the UK support academic excellence across the University. The award-winning collaboration with the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, the first venue outside London to host the Turner Prize, enables students to develop their practice in a supportive, stimulating environment with leading academics and internationally renowned artists.  Our partnership with the International Centre for Life, a pioneering science village based in Newcastle and a world-leader in stem cell technology, will jointly deliver an Science Communication MSc.

Working with high profile universities around the world enables us to provide outstanding learning for students outside the UK and to undertake internationally excellent and world-leading research. Our international partnerships include the Northumbria- BINUS Design School in Jakarta and working with Kaplan to offer Northumbria degrees in Singapore.

More about NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY

Our Values

At Northumbria we have our Values which are our guiding principles that collectively define who we are, what we do, and what’s most important to us.

Our Behaviours, which have been developed by colleagues, quite simply are the practical application of our values, translating them into day-to-day actions. They provide clarity on how we do things as individuals, as a collective, and as an organisation overall.

Northumbria Values and Behaviours describe what makes us different from the rest, they allow us to make decisions and take actions which drive us towards the achievement of our vision and strategy.

All colleagues at Northumbria are responsible for embracing our Values and Behaviours in all that they do.

Diversity and Inclusion Statement

Northumbria University is proud to be a multi-cultural community. We value diversity and are determined to ensure that the opportunities we provide are open to all. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strongly underpins the University’s Vision and Corporate Strategy.

Whilst we welcome the greater legislative protection which has been enacted in recent years, at Northumbria we have long been aware that there is a compelling moral case for equality. Therefore, as well as implementing our legislative duties we are striving to create a community that positively welcomes diversity by aiming to embed equality, diversity and inclusion into everything that we do.

We intend to become a Higher Education Institution which is recognised for its good practice in this area and are fully committed to enabling the development of a culture where we maximise the potential of all our staff and students
