Women in Tech – Interview with Perrine Allain

Who are you? What does your role consist of?

 

My name is Perrine Allain, I am heading up the digital team at Eurostar. This means that I am responsible for 6 agile teams covering the booking path, content, the mobile app, aftersales, content and personalisation and innovation.

 

The teams are each led by a product owner and are cross functional. They include people from UX, design, analytics, optimisation, back end, front end developers, testers and so on. They each have a specific objective and they work together to deliver a product that fits the objective or customer promise.

 

How did you end up in your actual position?

 

My whole career has been in digital. Straight after university, I managed a sales team and developed new search products in a start-up business, I then entered into new markets and developed strategic partnerships within digital advertising at TripAdvisor. And prior to my current role at Eurostar, I managed the ecommerce team and oversaw the commercial distribution strategy.

What do you enjoy about Tech?

 

Although my whole career has been in digital, it is worth stressing that I haven’t really chosen a career in technology. I have been lucky to meet inspiring people and be presented with opportunities throughout my career. Digital has always picked my curiosity from the start. I am a commercially driven person and digital is clearly an area screaming for opportunities. It also really provided me with a constant ability for challenge and personal growth.

 

What would you recommend to women wanting to join tech teams? What advice would you give to women wanting to join? Or get into the industry tech teams?

 

I am a living proof of this! I am not technical but I can identify growth opportunities, understand how technology can apply to commerce and lead others to implement disruptive and innovative solutions to derive value.

 

What do you enjoy about working at Eurostar in the tech department?

 

What I really enjoy at Eurostar is definitely the people and the ability to deliver things that I believe will truly enhance the customer experience. I have truly been given the means to invest in our digital experience. For me, that includes recruiting very talented people and empowering them to think out of the box to meet our customer promise. I am blessed to be surrounded by extremely talented individuals who are not afraid to challenge my decisions and help me to raise our standard. There is rarely a day that I do not go home without learning something new. Finally, I think it is important to stress that you do not necessarily need to be technical to have a career in tech. The roles in technology have widened and require a variety of skills and talented candidates.
