Some symptoms of Addison's disease can make it difficult for individuals to pursue a career.
The initial symptoms for Addison's disease are debilitating, with fatigue and tiredness. Alongside these are others, muscle weakness, mild depression, lack of appetite and weight loss. With these symptoms it's lack of energy that would stop individuals being able to lead a normal life.
The cause of Addison's is lack of adrenaline, but with daily medication a normal life can be led. Over a period of time other symptoms may occur, such as fainting, dizziness, cramps and exhaustion.
This condition is caused by a problem with the immune system and the outer layer of the adrenal gland is affected. This disrupts the production of steroid hormones, aldosterone and cortisol.
To be diagnosed with this condition can be quite daunting, not knowing how you're going to feel each day and having to take medication for the rest of your life.
With the help of this and other forums sufferers will be helped to come to terms with the illness and symptoms and to adjust to a new lifestyle through medication and diet. It's hard, not just for individuals who have a lifelong disability or illness but their families and friends. Encouragement from professionals and forums make a difference.
