Volunteering for Remembrance: Thales’ Commitment to Military Families

At Thales, we believe that businesses have a responsibility to support the communities in which they operate, and we take this commitment seriously. Recently, we made an important step in strengthening our ties to the military and veterans' communities by re-signing the Armed Forces Covenant. Alongside this, our Thales leaders participated in meaningful acts of remembrance by volunteering at the Poppy Factory in Richmond and the Commonwealth war graves in Woking. 

The Armed Forces Covenant: A Renewed Commitment to Our Military personnel. 

The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge from businesses and public organisations to support the armed forces community. By signing the Covenant, Thales formally committed to upholding a renewed set of promises that aim to ensure that our communities are treated fairly and with respect in all aspects of life, whether it be in employment, education, or access to services. We have promised to provide flexibility, understanding, and tangible support to the armed forces community. Whether through offering tailored career opportunities, supporting the employment of reservists, or assisting military families, we aim to make a real difference.

For Thales, this is more than just a gesture; it’s part of our ongoing efforts to create an inclusive and supportive workplace where veterans and those connected to the armed forces can thrive. As an employer of veterans and military spouses, we recognise the unique skills and experiences that these individuals bring to our business. We also know that transitioning from military life to civilian life can present challenges, and we are committed to making that journey easier for those who work with us.

Volunteering at the Poppy Factory: 

As part of our commitment to the armed forces community, we also participated in a volunteering day at the Poppy Factory. The factory is responsible for creating millions of poppies that are sold every year to raise money for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, which provides life-changing assistance to veterans and their families. Our team at Thales joined staff and volunteers to help with the production of poppies for the 2025 remembrance campaign. 

Volunteering at the Brookland’s Commonwealth war graves: 

As part of our commitment to the armed forces community, our Thales leaders also volunteered to clean the graves of fallen soldiers to prepare for Remembrance Sunday.  Volunteering at Brooklands War Graves in Woking was an incredibly meaningful way to honour the lives of those who served and sacrificed during the world wars. Located in the historic Brooklands area, this serene cemetery is the final resting place of numerous brave soldiers and civilians who lost their lives during times of conflict. By helping to clean and restore their graves, volunteers ensure that the stories of these fallen heroes are preserved for future generations, whilst offering a gesture of gratitude and respect for our fallen.

Through these partnerships, we aim to further our commitment and act on our promises towards a more inclusive, supportive, and respectful society. Where those who have served are provided with the recognition that they truly deserve. By engaging in initiatives like these, we are reminded that the act of remembrance is not just about looking back—it’s about ensuring that we honour the past, support the present, and shape a brighter future for the communities that have shaped us.
