VERCIDA previews its ATEC London 2017 seminar

Today’s recruitment is fast-paced and the vast majority of employers and recruiters exclusively use digital platforms to attract, assess and appoint candidates.

But disabled job-seekers can get left behind in the employment market due to inaccessible technology systems.

However, accessible digital technology has a role to play in removing barriers for disabled job-seekers by making sure they can successfully find and apply for jobs online.

A new BSI standard on diversity and inclusion that was officially launched in May (BS 76005:2017 Valuing people through diversity and inclusion – Code of practice) gives employers a framework for valuing people.

It gives clear guidance to ensure an inclusive recruitment process and to meet the standard employers and recruitment agencies must have accessible platforms for attraction and assessment.

This means they must make sure that every part of the recruitment process is accessible to disabled people, such as completing forms or taking assessments.

VERCIDA.com, which launches later this year, is a digital platform that removes barriers for disabled job-seekers.

It is the result of six years of development through DiversityJobs.co.uk and thebigIDEA.co.uk and is the best place to match diverse, accessible and inclusive employers together with candidates who care.

Web accessibility, which is enshrined in law by the Equality Act 2010, was a key priority when the new VERCIDA.com platform was being developed.

This presented some challenges as some web developers didn’t want to take responsibility for the project due to their lack of understanding of web accessibility.

But digital inclusion is a core part of VERCIDA.com’s overall strategy.

It is a fully accessible portal that will give jobseekers all the information they need to make an informed decision about whether an employer is the right fit for them and their specific needs, in the same way its predecessor thebigIDEA.co.uk did.

VERCIDA.com also provides a much enhanced version of the diversity and recruitment resourcing that DiversityJobs.co.uk offers, connecting people from diverse backgrounds to employers who place a high importance on having a diverse workforce.
