Volunteers’ Week takes place each year from 1st-7th June and is an opportunity to celebrate volunteering in all its diversity.
UK Athletics is committed to providing equal opportunities to our volunteers and Volunteers’ Week gives us the chance to say thank you for the fantastic contribution our volunteers make towards making our athletics events amazing every year.
This year, Volunteers’ Week is about volunteering for all – celebrating the huge range of people who give their time in so many ways. To mark the occasion, we are showcasing some of our volunteers in athletics.
Name: Lyndsey Nolan Age: 39
Where are you based? West Lothian, Scotland
What do you do aside from volunteering? I am medical retired due to multiple sclerosis. Who or what inspired you to become a volunteer in athletics? I was a runner myself and my daughter runs for Livingston AC, so this was a great opportunity to help in a sport that is very dear to me.
What do you most like about being an athletics volunteer? The fact that I am disabled and I could still volunteer was great. I was made very welcomed by all the team I was working with. The roll I was given was to hand out light sticks to all the spectators which was great fun and got everyone involved. Making new friends, also meeting the awesome athletes truly inspirational. I would encourage anyone who has not volunteered before to do it – it is a worthwhile experience.
