Looking back at the exciting year we had at Thomson Reuters in 2023, it’s impossible not to feel proud and excited for the future.

We experienced a year filled with learning, innovation, connection, and many occasions that helped to shape our employee experience. Read more about some of our top moments working at Thomson Reuters in 2023 below.

1. Launch of the Distinguished Engineer program

In May 2022, we announced the launch of our new Distinguished Engineer program with our first Distinguished Engineer. The Distinguished Engineer program is an opportunity to promote a strong engineering culture within our organization while maintaining a competitive advantage in the marketplace. In 2023, we introduced the first cohort of Distinguished Engineers. Four more Distinguished Engineers expanded their responsibilities to work side-by-side with key stakeholders to improve the quality and sophistication of our digital products and services. Stay tuned in 2024 as we introduce the next cohort of Distinguished Engineers.

The Thomson Reuters Social Impact Institute hosted its third annual IMPACTathon from April 24-28. IMPACTathon is an annual hackathon where employees utilize their skills for social good, offering pro bono consulting to nonprofits in need of strategic or capacity-building support. The 2023 IMPACTathon surpassed previous years in terms of outcomes: over 200 employees contributed 1,700+ hours, valued at over $336,000 in consulting services, at no cost to the nonprofits.

In May, we took occupancy of our new innovation hub in the heart of downtown Toronto — one of our 70 global locations. The new center, located at 19 Duncan Street is purpose-built for the future of work. It was designed with sustainability in mind and a careful focus on how people, their environment, and technology intersect. We held many great events in 2023 and can’t wait for more in 2024 with the opening of our new Customer Centre.

6. First three Global Learning Days

In 2023, we introduced Global Learning Days – dedicated time each quarter for employees to focus on learning, building skills, and growing their careers. The first day focused on AI and Machine Learning, the second was all about career development and planning, and the third looked at the customer experience and how we’re continuously working to enhance it. We’re looking forward to sharing takeaways from our first Global Learning Day in 2024 coming up in February which will focus on AI experimentation and adoption!
