January is a month of new beginnings and fresh starts. It’s the perfect time to start taking steps towards your dream job. Are you hoping to climb up the ladder in your existing line of work? Or do you want to try something completely different? Here’s a few tips you can use to get yourself on the right path.
Learn your personality
You might have a good handle on who you are as a person, but do you know how your personality works within certain job roles? Get to grips with your strengths and weaknesses. It’s the first stage in working out whether that dream job is suited to you. And remember, our unique artificial intelligence-led CV matching service can suggest roles that suit you. Roles that you might but qualified for but never considered. Try it here.
Understand your goals
So, you want to be an accountant, or a fighter pilot. That’s great! Identifying your job goal is a step in the right direction. The next step is understanding how you’re going to get there. If you’re lacking in experience think about a course study or some voluntary work. Now is a good time to map it out and get started.
Create a target list
Many employers have schemes that enable employees to learn and study while they’re working.Think about what you’re hoping to achieve with your new job and which employers might help you to get there. Then create a target list of the businesses you feel might be a good fit. Search our databasetoday to find your perfect employer, and a job that goes with it.
Tailor your application
Each application you submit should be tailored to that specific company and vacancy. Cut and paste just won’t do in this scenario! Show prospective employers that you genuinely have an interest in working for them – do your research! And then show them you have all the qualities they think are important. Don’t be put off by a rejection or two. Use them as learning experiences to ensure that your next application is better and stronger. J.K Rowling had her books rejected by major publishers many, many times over. And she’s certainly not disheartened now!
