Thomson Reuters Business Resource Group Open Day

Category: Staff Network Group

Last fall, our Canary Wharf office hosted a business resource group Open Day event. The purpose of the day was to provide colleagues with the opportunity to meet representatives from the six business resource groups: the Black Employee Network, Disability Employee Network, Early Careers Network, Pride at Work, Women at Thomson Reuters, and Veterans Network.

Each business resource group had a stand displaying treats, merchandise and information about the work of their team to attract attention and create engagement. The lure of a cupcake or a Pride at Work branded lanyard was a great conversation starter, and this created a fantastic buzz around the stands! As a result, all of the business resource groups were successful in engaging new members (Women at Thomson Reuters alone had 37 new members sign up on the day!) and having some really interesting discussions around diversity and inclusion.

Later in the day, there was an 'Introduction to the Business Resource Groups' session held where all the co-leads provided a brief outline of their objectives together with some of their highlights of the year. This was followed by a panel discussion with Lucinda Case (Head of Legal Professionals Europe), Chris Jeffrey, (Vice President, Product Marketing) and Preya Shah (Senior Commercial Director EMEA & APAC Reuters) and moderated by Sarah Ilyas (Co-chair of Women at Thomson Reuters) and Megan Brackley (Co-chair of Veterans Network). The purpose of the discussion was to hear from senior leaders on their perspectives and experiences of being marginalised in the workplace, how they overcome obstacles related to diversity and inclusion, and how they create diverse teams and an inclusive culture at Thomson Reuters. It was an engaging event and very well-received, which was evident by the interesting and probing questions posed by the audience at the end of the session.

The day was capped off with carols sung by the Thomson Reuters/LSEG choir and followed by drinks and nibbles to give people the chance to socialise and catch up. Overall, the business resource group open day was a great success and a fantastic chance for people to connect in person, learn more about why our business resource groups so important and understand the positive impact they have on Thomson Reuters culture. We look forward to hosting another Open Day in 2023!
