The Top Employers for Working Families 2016

Britain’s most family friendly workplaces unveiled

Top Employers for Working Families are announced by the UK’s work-life balance charity Working Families

Employers compete annually to be named a Top Employer for Working Families.

This year’s Top Ten – in alphabetical order – are:

• American Express
• Citi
• Deloitte
• DWF LLP
• EY
• Lloyds Banking Group
• Ministry of Justice
• National Assembly for Wales
• Royal Bank of Scotland
• Southdown Housing Association

The placings are based on the highly competitive Working Families’ benchmarking survey, sponsored by Computershare, which examines all aspects of workplace agility/flexibility and how employers support the work-life balance of all their staff. The survey is open to employer members of Working Families. Key findings in 2016 include:

• 94 per cent of organisations have the support of senior leaders who champion flexibility;
• 57 per cent include creating a flexible and family friendly workplace in their values or mission statement, but only 39 per cent see flexibility as a ‘normal’ model of work
• More employers are now evaluating vacancies to see whether they might be offered on a flexible working basis: only 36 per cent still require hiring managers to justify creating a full time post

Sarah Jackson OBE, Chief Executive of Working Families [3], said:

“Congratulations to these employers, all building truly flexible, agile workplaces fit for the future. This year, more than nine out of ten organisations told us that their senior leaders support flexibility and more than half reported that they include flexibility and family-friendly working in their values or mission statement.

“What we need now is for flexibility to become part of ‘business as usual’, reflected in strategic planning, recruitment, project management, organisational policies and everything in between.”
