The BBC is searching for female STEM experts

BBC Academy is offering free media familiarisation for women who have specific acumen and are inclined to be on TV, radio and online, who can speak efficiently about Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.

In collaboration with STV and BBC Academy, BBC Scotland is providing a free media familiarisation day to assist people who are not sure about appearing in the media to help give them the skills and confidence for participating in BBC programming.

The participants are asked to submit an application comprising a short 2-minute video, a CV and answering queries about their area of skills.

Applicants are asked to attend the occasion of the familiarisation day, taking place on 13th March, 2018 at the BBC Scotland HQ in Glasgow.

As per the website of BBC, broadcasters all over the industry have acknowledged that not enough knowledgeable female contributors are appearing on air.

BBC Expert Women is their endeavour to rectify the balance through a chain of free training days providing knowledge, experiences and networking options that aid to make clear the boost and media skills.

The website states that the day provides experiences both before a camera and in the radio station, besides masterclasses with professionals in the industry including talented programme-makers

Apart from STEM subjects, the BBC are also searching for women who have expertise in other areas, however, they have particular interest in business and the economy in Scotland all aspects of Brexit, especially fishing, farming and business, health, politics, law, especially Scottish constitutional law, and education.

A group of BBC Academy and BBC Scotland experts are going to view all the material submitted and choose up to twenty-four delegates, as well as, up to 5 for a waiting list, depending on the criteria as follows.

  • skills in communication
  • passion for your selected subject
  • your potential as on-air talent
  • your unique selling point as an expert in your field
  • relevance and audience awareness

Applications from groups that are under-represented are welcomed by the BBC since it is dedicated to creating a culturally varied labourforce. Therefore, applications are encouraged from people across different backgrounds.
