South Western Railway Wins Big at SPOTLIGHT Rail Awards for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Last night’s SPOTLIGHT Rail Awards saw a significant presence from South Western Railway (SWR) as a large group of colleagues attended to represent their teams. SWR had several nominations, reflecting the hard work and commitment of their staff across the business. Among the many highlights of the evening, SWR was especially proud to see its Reverse Mentoring programme win the award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

The Reverse Mentoring programme is a standout initiative that pairs employees from various levels of the business with SWR’s senior leadership team. Unlike traditional mentoring, this initiative allows employees—regardless of their position in the company—to become mentors, while senior leaders take on the role of mentees. This unique structure ensures that voices from all parts of the business are heard, giving mentors the chance to share their experiences, insights, and perspectives directly with those in leadership roles. For the mentees, it offers an invaluable opportunity to learn from a more diverse group of colleagues, providing them with a broader understanding of the challenges, ideas, and successes across different levels of the business.
