The Lifeline of Smart Working: Supporting Carers at RSSB
Category: Home & Flexible Working, Dependency (Parenting & Carers)
Supporting carers and fostering an inclusive environment are core values at RSSB.
When one of our employees faced an immense family challenge, these values truly came to the forefront. With support from RSSB and her line managers, Vicky was able to manage both her professional responsibilities and caregiving duties through smart working.

"I’ve had an amazing amount of support from RSSB and my line managers and will happily share my experience of smart working.
My husband was diagnosed with kidney failure in February 2021, resulting in numerous and regular trips to a number of hospitals. RSSB have really helped me to continue working and care for him at the same time. I used to have to arrange his dialysis 4 times a day, which I could do with smart working. I now have to take him and fetch him 4 hours later, to the dialysis unit twice a week when he’s not well enough to drive. Without smart working, I would have had to give up my career, which at times keeps me sane and enables us to maintain our lifestyle and a (restricted by diet, appointments, mobility etc.) quality of life.
I can’t say how much smart working has helped over the past 2 years – thank you."
