Job hunting can be a thoroughly dispiriting process: hundreds, sometimes thousands of CVs distributed and often very little by way of feedback, never mind firm interview opportunities. This is the CV "black hole" that most of us have experienced at one time or another. The good news is that there is a solution; a well-proven system that will greatly increase your chances of winning interviews.

Here's the issue. While traditional, neatly formatted "hardcopy" CVs are still a powerful marketing tool, it is a fact that the vast majority of recruiters will request an electronic copy of your CV. Candidates need to understand that it is critically important that their CVs contain robust and relevant keywords. This is because more than 80% of recruiters and employers now rely on various forms of Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to identify candidates from the thousands of CVs held in their databases. Recruiters deploy keywords to sift databases for candidates whose skills and experience most closely fit the job advertised. So, if your CV doesn't contain the "right" keywords, the chances are very high that it will not reach human eyes - irrespective of your suitability for the post.

At iSeeker CV we have developed highly effective methodologies for creating CVs that are not only achievement-driven and supremely easy to read, but also keyword-rich. In our experience, it is this combination of content and visual appeal that produces outstanding results for our clients. Sourcing keywords is an art in itself. But here are a few tips from the professionals:

Review job advertisements carefully examine the type of job advertisements that appeal to you and play to your strengths. What skills are repeated across those job descriptions? If your CV doesn't already cover those skills, make sure you make those changes first. Now examine the post you are actually applying for; by repeating the process you begin to build a robust, multi-layered optimisation strategy.

The internet is a great source of industry specific keywords and keyword phrases. Google search will highlight many options. As will LinkedIn go to your LinkedIn profile (yes, you should have one) and click on the more tab to find the skills section. Simply type a skill into the search box and a menu will appear with skills similar to the one you entered. This can help you source additional keywords for your CV, as well as your LinkedIn skills section.
Use a professional CV rewriting company that incorporates a full optimisation service at iSeeker we shoulder the hard work of finding the most appropriate keywords and keyword phrases for your CV. Based on years of experience, we have developed tools and methodologies to greatly increase the chances of your CV being pulled from the CV black hole!
