Social media - Are we too reliant on it?

Social media is very much part of our lives, we have so many platforms to choose from. Are we putting ourselves at risk when signing up to them?

Social media is dominant in our lives today, in building our profile, keeping in contact with our friends, playing games and writing blogs. The list is endless.

While we are signing up to these platforms we have to give a certain amount of information about ourselves and so we become one of the many who have waived our right of anonymity.

In doing this sometimes this can compromise our personal data, in some instances our CV status, our personal status and other information that can be used as a possible new identity for a stranger.

Today's fast society finds us needing our personal data all in one place and that is usually on our phone or portable laptop. If stolen, our status is changed and we are the victim, as our identity is stolen.

Passwords are a pain to remember so sometimes it seems easier to have the same one, but we are compromising our personal information if we do that.

Having so much to choose from, enhancing our profile, to keeping in contact with our friends, makes us want to have it all, so we sign up, giving our details.

There is the need to give as much information as possible, to move forward in careers and other opportunities, but sometimes it does come at a risk.

Platforms are useful to share information and experience and sometimes even provide new opportunities for a new career.

Creating new media technology, creating forums, new apps, find us sharing more information about ourselves. Are we happy with that.
