Teams across Skanska took part in a volunteering week with activities arranged that supported local charities, schools and communities.
The teams across London and the southwest took part in activities that supported local communities close to our projects. It was arranged to coincide with The Lord Mayor’s City Giving Day in London, activities included the Tour de City – static cycle challenge, quiz night and treasure hunt. Other activities that took place during the week included:
- Helping The Hope Hub, sorting through donations, making food parcels to deliver to the homeless, as well as serving refreshments.
- Working in the gardens at Spitalfields Crypt Trust and St Hilda’s East Community Centre.
- Sorting clothing and food donations at Whitechapel Mission.
- Helping at a soup kitchen run by the American International Church.
- Helping at Coram’s Fields, a children's only park and playground, painting the IT suite in the youth centre.
Volunteering at charity shops run by Spitalfields Crypt Trust.
Steve Holbrook, Managing Director at Skanska, explained: “Organising a week of activities that supports society and the people that need our help the most is really important to us. It’s a great opportunity to work together with our customers to identify the right activities to support the people that surround our projects. It also encourages our teams to not only take part in this annual event, but to find ways to help the local communities all-year-round.”
