Ryan thanks Royal Mail for the amazing work experience opportunity

Thanks to the Get Set programme, student Ryan Whiting has become a valued member of the Blackpool delivery office team.

Get Set is a British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association youth engagement programme. Royal Mail joined it in 2012. We work with local colleges to offer work experience placements to people who might otherwise find it difficult due to disability or learning difficulties.

Ryan, who has learning difficulties, works two days a week at Blackpool DO. He supports the team on collections and in the caller’s office.

He says: ‘I like my job because I am learning new skills and meeting new people.’

‘I’d like to have a part-time job here and would like to thank Royal Mail for this opportunity.’

Delivery office manager James Blackburn adds: ‘Get Set is a great way to allow equality in employment and integrate disabled students into the working environment.

‘Ryan has lots of skills to offer and has settled into the busy delivery office life quickly. The placement allowed him to add value to our operation while giving him some real work experience.’
