Last October, we commissioned an external company to assess how effective we are in our approach to diversity. We asked the company to make a set of recommendations on how we can become a more inclusive and fair employer.
The review was done through a combination of surveys as well as face to face interviews with employees across the company, from front line employees to members of the Chief Executive’s Committee, and representatives from our unions. In total, almost 2,500 employees provided valuable input.
One of the key recommendations from the review is that more should be done to ensure that day to day practices on the ground reflect our policies. In addition, diversity must be seen as a core management issue and not just something that’s ‘nice to have’.
As a result of the review, we have created a new Diversity Council, with the objective of improving diversity across the business and drive positive change. The Council includes representatives from across the business and our unions.
A comprehensive diversity strategy is being developed which will come up with initiatives and changes. We plan to create an environment in which all individuals are able to make best use of their skills, free from discrimination or harassment.
Our ultimate aim is to make Royal Mail Group an employer/supplier of choice for everyone, irrespective of their differences or background.
