Large prides include a parade, an important nod to the political movement that developed following the Stonewall Riots of 1969. We should always acknowledge Pride as a political movement and not just a party. It is a time to educate ourselves, share our space and stand in solidarity against oppression. Although we can celebrate improvements for LGBTQIA+ people, there is still discrimination, alienation and legal inequality, both at home and internationally.
Pride month is celebrated throughout the month of June, but specific cities and towns host their own celebrations any time in the warmer months.
PROUD at WYCA will be hosting events for Pride month on Monday 19th June, updates will follow soon! We also encourage colleagues to join in the celebrations across our region. Check out the Calendar to find an event near you!
