National Engineering Day 2023 - Everyday Engineering Competition
Category: Gender (Equality & Identity)
Engineering expertise is central to delivering a more sustainable world and fundamental in helping achieve net zero and the and how we protect the nation with new engineering technology. However, we don’t have enough engineers to make sustainable happen at the pace Engineering UK need to bring about change and the UK engineering workforce still comprises only 16.5% women.
This must change if we are to engineer a better future, which is why on 1 November, National Engineering Day, Engineering UK will be joining forces with a BBC Dragons’ Den investor to launch the ‘everyday engineering’ competition.
The ‘everyday engineering’ competition was launched on 2 October, inviting the public to release their inner engineer by submitting their ideas or prototypes for making daily life more sustainable.
On National Engineering Day, a public vote on This is Engineering’s social media channels (Instagram, X and Facebook) will decide the nation’s #EverydayEngineering favourite and inspire the nation.
You can help make the campaign and the competition more visible.
Could you, for example:
- Encourage your stakeholders (colleagues, employees, members, and their families) to either enter the #EverydayEngineering competition by sharing an idea or a prototype that could help make our daily lives more sustainable or vote for a favourite competition entry on Instagram, Facebook, and X on 1 November.
- Publicly shout about your products or projects that you’ve engineered to make our lives more sustainable. Tell us the story of how it went from idea on a page to commercial success. Tell us about the people who engineered it from idea to innovation.
- Celebrate the unsung innovations and engineers that have shaped or are shaping our world for the better.
- Follow our profiles on social media (@ThisIsEng on X, @ThisIsEngineering on Instagram and ThisisEngineering1 on Facebook),#EKOSTEM then like and share our posts about the #EverydayEngineering competition.
