MoD Sport and Wellbeing Day 2023

MOD Sport and Wellbeing Day returned on a sunny day after a hiatus of three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Under the rebranded name of MOD Sport and Wellbeing Day, the Defence Sports & Recreational Association (DSRA) joined forces with the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC) to host the event at Kings House School Sports Ground in Chiswick, London. An excellent venue which has a long history of hosting Civil Service sporting events going back to 1925.
MOD employees descended on the Sports Ground in their numbers, and all looking forward to competing in their chosen activity. With a choice of Football, Rounders, Netball, Volleyball and Tennis on offer. All made for a competitive day of sport and wellbeing activities.
Aside from the sporting competitions, competitors and visitors had a chance to participate in taster sessions, which included touch rugby, yoga sessions, tug of war, adaptive activities run by Activity Alliance and even a chance to ride an e-Bike courtesy of Halfords.
With group stages of the activities completed prior to lunch, competitors, organisers and volunteers all had a chance to relax in the sun and make full use of the BBQ that was on offer.
The afternoon saw the start of the finals and also the mini mile, which was organised by the Charity for Civil Servants. The mini mile was a mixture of competitive participants, compared to those who were going to have a leisurely walk around the Sports Ground.
Certainly the first two individuals past the post were seasoned runners as they completed the course in what seemed a matter of minutes. But well done to all who took part in this event and braved the hot weather.
Congratulations to all those who took part in the day and a special mention to our main sporting event winners. On behalf of DSRA, we’d firstly like thank the volunteers and partners who helped ensure the day ran smoothly and of course the participants of the events.
