Meet Melisa and learn about her Tesco story

What is your name and job title?

Melisa Langlands - I currently work in the Supplier Resolution team as a Supply Resolution Agent, the team are the escalation point for all supplier invoice and financial queries, we also ensure the business acts within the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) & remains GSCOP compliant.

What were you doing before you joined Tesco?

I worked for a beauty brand as an Account Manager & ran a small sales business for skin care and makeup, previously I was a skin care specialist and makeup artist.  I left my creativity at the door when I joined Tesco, it was a really big career change for me, but really worth it for so many reasons, including the additional mental stimulation I get in my role.

What attracted you to apply for a role at Tesco?

I knew a lot of people within my circle who worked for Tesco & already knew it was a great place to work, I had heard a lot of good things and thought it was about time I looked for a change of career & went for something new, I’m so glad I did, it was the best thing I ever did!

How long have you worked at Tesco? Can you describe your career journey?

I’ve only been with Tesco about 15 months so I’m still quite new, I've been given so much opportunity already, it’s such a great business to work for.  I’m really excited about the future, especially as my team have recently moved into the Supplier Engagement team and this can only open up more opportunities that are more aligned to what I’m doing now, it’s all very exciting!

"I’m very lucky to work within such a lovely team, one of the most exciting things is the amount of opportunity there is to learn & to develop myself further.."

How would you describe inclusivity at Tesco?

If I compare Tesco to my previous Employers, inclusivity is definitely at the forefront of everything  they do, the fact that we are even having this conversation right now is so positive! They behave in such an inclusive way as a business and are not afraid to learn and grow as a brand in this space. It’s really good to see that Tesco recognize the areas for improvement and are not afraid to have the right conversations!  I’m a proud member of the Race, Ethnicity & Heritage Colleague network who make lots of interesting information accessible, including some inspiring Colleague career spotlights, hearing how other Colleagues felt at the same point as me in their careers is so relatable for me and comforting to know you are not the only one thinking about these things, which has been one of the biggest takeaway’s for me.

What new skills have you gained since joining Tesco?

I am a real people person, the number one skill I have definitely developed since joining Tesco is collaboration.

What teams do you collaborate with in your current role?

I support so many different teams and people across Tesco due to the variety of the enquiries, including 18 different Finance teams in Bengaluru, Distribution and also the Commercial teams in the UK.  I work with the teams in Bengaluru on a daily basis and I really love this global interaction and collaboration in my role.

What is the most exciting part of working in the Commercial Product team at the moment?

I’m very lucky to work within such a lovely team, one of the most exciting things is the amount of opportunity there is to learn & to develop myself further.

What advice would you give to people who are thinking about joining the Tesco Commercial Product team?

Definitely go for it!  If I’ve learned anything about Tesco it’s that they look after their Colleagues, it feels like a warm community and everyone really is welcome and of course there is a huge amount of opportunity internally to develop your career.

What is your favourite Tesco own brand product?

I love the new range of Fox & Ivy candles, they smell gorgeous, my other favourite would have to be the Cinnamon Tear and Share Bun from the bakery.
