Your LinkedIn Profile Reads Like Everyone Else’s | EVPeasy #14

Career Resources

Same job titles, same achievements, same careful phrasing. If a hiring manager has fifty profiles open, nothing in yours tells them which one you are.

Iveta Degulyte spent a decade in marketing, half of it in employer brand and recruitment marketing, before setting up as a personal brand and LinkedIn strategist. On episode 14 of EVPeasy, she made a point that cuts against most profile advice.

The fix is not more achievements. It is not inflating what you have done, and it is certainly not another round of polishing. It is letting some personality through.

Her reasoning is practical rather than feel-good. People warm to people who seem like them. A hiring manager scanning profiles is looking for a reason to stop, and something they recognise in how you think or how you work gives them one. A profile that reads like a formatted CV gives them nothing to catch on.

She is clear this is not an invitation to overshare. Keep it connected to your work: how you approach problems, what you do differently, what you find interesting about the job. The aim is to sound like a person doing that work, not a person performing online.

There is a second reason it matters, and it applies whether or not you are job hunting. Doing good work is not the same as being seen to do it. When promotions come round, or when redundancies do, the people who have been visible about how they work are the ones who come to mind. That visibility is built long before you need it.
