Joleen Tarr's Management Story at Sage

Even when you can’t see how great you are, those around you always can! Today’s story is a perfect illustration of this.
Joleen started as an intern and she’s been soaring higher and higher ever since. Earlier in the year, Joleen was picked to help lead one of our Customer Services teams in South Africa during her manager's three week holiday. She says that was the most challenging time in her career.
“I went through the most challenging time in my career and crushed it. You know those, if I could get through this, I can get through anything stories? Yeah, this is one of them. To try and sum it up it was it was such a crash course on like just maturing as a person. I aged over those three weeks. The hands-on experience you get trying to manage a team is nothing like what they tell you in books or courses or anywhere."
But here's the thing, her manager trusted that she'd be the best person to fill in for him and all Joleen did was prove him right. Her colleagues also strongly concurred.
“It was the most challenging time in my career but it was also the most rewarding. This experience has made me believe in my leadership abilities. Now I know that I can do this management thing."
