News journalist India Willoughby became the first transgender woman in the world to host an all-female talk show.

India guest-hosted an episode of ITV’s Loose Women during Transgender Awareness Week as the show received plenty of praise from viewers on Twitter. India, 51, who was born Jonathan, was a huge hit with viewers when she talked about being transgender on the show last month, so producers asked her back to the delight of the public. Loose Women editor, Sally Shelford said: "What makes a great Loose Women panellist is the journey they've taken to become the woman they are today and India is no different. She is an inspiring role model for modern Britain and we can't wait for her to join the other women for what is set to be a landmark show."

India had a successful career as an ITV regional newsreader for ten years, however, she felt she was in the wrong body from a young age. After undergoing full gender reassignment surgery last year, India acquired a job again with ITV Border in Cumbria, where she had worked previous to her surgery and said ITV had been ‘fantastic’ about her return after surgery. India has become the first transgender TV news reporter in the UK. A keen campaigner on transgender issues, by sharing her story India hopes she will help others understand being born with the wrong gender and resolve any derisory prejudices.

ITV’s Pride employee network has provided a vital connection for the broadcaster’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community. Membership is growing annually and the network plays a pivotal role in transforming diversity and inclusiveness assurances into benefits for the whole of ITV. Each ITV News region has its own Diversity Panel with representatives from community groups, allowing editorial teams to ascertain from community members how best they can embody and reflect their region.
