Humans of Xero: Stephanie Mendez

Category: Wellbeing (Financial/Mental/Physical)

Welcome to Humans of Xero! It’s an occasional series about some of the awesome humans that work at Xero. We’ll talk a bit about their work, their passions, some fascinating facts, and what makes them tick.

We’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Mendez, Senior Customer Experience Specialist for Banking in the UK. We had a chat to her about life in and out of Xero.

Tell us about your role

I’m part of the UK Bank Feeds team. We’re responsible for dealing with any escalated issues from our Bank Feeds Support Queue. Bank feeds allow our customers to automatically import account transactions from their bank to Xero. It’s really important as it allows them to reconcile their transactions and ensure they’ve been paid by their customers. So we want to make sure we help them with any issues with bank feeds and find the best solution.

This means having a great relationship with the UK banks as we work together to resolve any outstanding bank feed issues. The other part of my role that I really enjoy is being responsible for the training and development of our new and current staff in the Bank Feeds team.

Why did you decide to join Xero?

A friend recommended Xero to me as I was looking for a new challenge. A job working in a accounting software business wasn’t what I was exactly looking for but Xero sounded like it was anything but just an accounting business. I thought it looked like a super cool place to work and somewhere I could really see myself fitting into! It’s been an awesome change and challenge. I’m just really glad I took the plunge and tried something new and exciting.

What is it like working at Xero?

It’s great to know that our efforts are part of something bigger – that we’re actually helping small businesses grow and be successful. This gives me a real sense of meaning and accomplishment at work. I work with an amazing team who work really hard to make a difference for our customers but with little fuss and I love that! We try to take time out to do stuff together outside of work and it certainly makes our working relationships even better.

The overall culture at Xero is infectious and something I think is pretty special. We work in a fast paced environment that keeps you on your toes. But everyone is really positive, supportive and makes an effort to recognise and celebrate all the great stuff we do along the way. The cool perks (fresh fruit, soft drinks, table tennis, pool, PS4 just to name a few) definitely helps too!

Tell us something #human about you

I am a major Lego fan. Although I may not be creative enough to feature on the new ‘Lego Masters’ TV show in the UK, there is literally Lego in every part of my house. I also go to the cinema each week with a small group of friends. It’s just our thing and we love it.
