How GWR celebrated Race Equality Week

In collaboration with GWR's REACH network, we launched our plans for Race Equality Week (5th-9th February) with colleagues inviting them to engage with the week’s activities.
Race Equality Week is an annual UK-wide movement uniting organisations and individuals to address race inequality in the workplace. This year’s theme, ListenActChange, aims to galvanise everyone to focus on action.
Why?
- Ethnic discrimination is still seen as the most likely barrier to achieving career goals and ambitions:
- In a survey of 3,250 young people from minoritised ethnic backgrounds, almost a quarter (23%) said that they had been overlooked for a job because of their ethnicity
- 63% of the Race Equality Matters community believe that less than a quarter of allies are actually helping to tackle race inequality.
In response, we encouraged all colleagues to take considerate positive action steps to help create a more inclusive and equitable workplace within GWR.
