Enfield Women’s Centre is teaming up with Enfield Borough Council for this year’s International Women’s Day.
The theme for this year’s event is ‘equality for women is progress for all’ and a special conference will take place next Wednesday for the day at the Dugdale Centre, in London Road, Enfield.
Councillorr Yasemin Brett, cabinet member for community organisations, said: “Great strides have been made in recent years so that women have the opportunities to fulfil their potential.
“International Women’s Day makes the case for even greater equality in the work place; improvements in education, health and support for families. By using the networks of the United Nations we can help to improve life for women throughout the world. Equality for women really is progress for all.”
Barbara LeFevre, chair of the Enfield Women’s Centre, said: “While inequalities still exist, and women struggle, our aims are clear. In all communities, the contribution made by women is valid and necessary.
“As mothers, partners, workers, performers, wherever they are in the world they deserve respect and understanding. Women can support women and men – we need a world that strives and achieves equality for everyone.”
The event will consist of several workshops about economic empowerment, and speeches from Roxanne Halsey, Feminist Activist and Lucy Holmes, campaign founder amongst others.
