16-25 year olds to embark a pioneering partnership project

Young people will be taking their first steps towards a successful career when they embark upon a pioneering partnership project next week.

"The first Team programme was a real success and the young people gained vital experience and skills that will hopefully put them on the road to success. We are now looking forward to running our second course and helping the participants to take their first steps on the career ladder."

James Hettihewa-Young - the Service’s Programme Manager for The Prince’s Trust

Safer Communities CIC in partnership with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has teamed up with The Prince’s Trust to run the second Team programme in the county.

The 12-week personal development programme is aimed at 16-25-year-olds who are not in education, employment or training. It will give them the skills and confidence they need to get into work or training.

There are 15 places available on the full-time programme, which will start on February 2 and will run from Stafford Fire Station, Hydrant Way. During the course, young people will take part in a residential week away, complete a two-week work placement and get involved in a project to help a community.

The young people will be able to achieve The Prince’s Trust Certificate or Award in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills.

Participants on the course in Stafford will also be helped to apply for their provisional driving licence, have the chance to sit their theory test at the Service’s headquarters and take part in a driver training programme. This is unique to people on the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service course.

James Hettihewa-Young, the Service’s Programme Manager for The Prince’s Trust, said: “The first Team programme was a real success and the young people gained vital experience and skills that will hopefully put them on the road to success.

“We are now looking forward to running our second course and helping the participants to take their first steps on the career ladder. The aim of the course is to build the confidence of the attendees, give them the opportunity to have a taste of what it is like to have the routine and responsibilities of a steady job and the life skills to be able to interact with other people in a work environment. It is a challenging course and the young people are expected to put a lot of effort in but as those who took part in our initial course will testify, the results can be life changing.”
