This month we’re focusing on early career professionals. Early career professionals are usually described as people within five years of completing what they anticipate as their highest degree. This group are filled with ambition and aspirations, bringing energy and enthusiasm into the workplace.
On the downside of this great potential lies the responsibility of living up to these expectations, which may be complicated by the combination of various responsibilities such as finishing training, securing a job and starting a family.
Early career professionals may have already completed a degree. Others come via a workplace apprenticeship route. In 2017/18, 44% of apprenticeships started were at advanced level, with 13% started at higher level. And attainment in these programmes is increasing, there were 11,000 level 6 and 7 starts (higher undergraduate or masters level) in 2017/18. In 2016/17 there were only 2,000 starts at these levels.
Apprenticeships offer a way into a variety of sectors. Currently over four in five are in subject areas: business administration, care and public services; manufacturing or engineering; and retail or commercial work. Search our database of vacancies with family-friendly, flexible employers now.
