Religious Beliefs

Hi, I’m Pam Roberts Digital Change Lead in the Chief Information Office at Whittington and proud to be DIO’s Diversity and Inclusion Champion for the Faith and Belief Forum.

Why am I proud? Well because my faith is part of who I am and the values I hold as an individual. Of all the diverse characteristics, faith is the one spoken about the least. My faith is at the core of everything I do and so when I am at work I'm bringing my faith with me as part of my 'whole self'. I believe that we can all be and do our very best when we're able to bring our whole selves to work and evidence shows that a diverse and inclusive organisation that allows its staff to do so, has real business benefits in terms of increased personal resilience and reduced stress.

DIO's Faith and Belief Forum exists to connect, equip and inspire. Our Mission is to be a positive presence in the workplace, bringing benefits for the organisation and all the people who work within it through living out our faiths and beliefs. Creating a safe environment at work and embedding a culture of inclusivity is very important to each and every one of us and so I find myself asking if we are doing enough in DIO to meet the needs of all the faithful?

If you have been fortunate to attend DIO's Diversity and Inclusion 'Lived Experience' events in the past, you will have heard guest speakers explain how DIO can become an even more faith-friendly organisation, going beyond minimum legal and policy requirements in proactively welcoming other faiths and beliefs, and acknowledging the business benefits of appropriate displays of all faiths at work.

With the advocacy of our 2* D&I Champion David Brewer, we have created a faith-friendIy forum here in DIO. I am working closely with and supporting the D&I Lead and Faith and Belief Forum Chair to celebrate diversity, by encouraging the inclusion of all faiths and beliefs in the workplace in the future.  

We provide regular updates on our Faith and Belief Forum website on the new Corporate Comms Teams Platform and would encourage you and others to join the new forum regardless of office location. Remember we're only a phone call away, if you have any suggestions as to how we may help our staff to maintain their faith or belief at work, please do let us know.

For now, I'll end with a quote from John Manzoni, former Chief Executive of the Civil Service and a staunch advocate of diversity and inclusion in the workplace:

"Recognising, acknowledging and accepting the importance of faith, religion and belief, even it if is not important to you directly, is a key element of an inclusive workplace."
