Uniform, a platform that disperses career and university advice online, presented findings on Monday, January 15. The findings pointed out that in subjects like technology, engineering, mathematics and technology, A levels are more popular with boys than girls.

The results of the study highlight the ten most preferred subjects for girls and boys, indicating that STEM subjects ringed in more popularity among the male students.

Higher Education Stats Authority’s latest figures indicate improvements for the numbers of women STEM subject students. As figures confirm, 42% was the enrollment percentage of women in these subjects in 2016/17, as opposed to the 2015/16 figure of 41%.

A spokesman from the Department of Education explained that according to the latest findings, women’s enrollment proportions in science subjects has witnessed a rise, at the university level. Up to 17% since the year 2010, it is a trend that points out an increasing number of girls taking up A-level STEM subjects.

To ensure that Britain gets talented, skilled and well-trained workers in the future, investments are being made. An able and varied workforce of STEM is part of that future. The priorities now include taking specific actions for the improvement of school-level particularity, and participation based on gender. The hope remains that the figures will keep on improving, with the advancement of the students within the system of education.
