The inaugural event sought to highlight the importance of restoring physical fitness after childbirth through to staying active during pregnancy. Transformational change is progressed using baby steps, a sense of meaning and a strong pelvic floor in this case! Defence prides itself in advancement, and the Defence Perinatal Festival was no exception, paving the way to support new mums through the lens of UK Armed Forces Servicewomen and Civil Servants.
The festival brought together Servicewomen, Civil Servants, children and partners with a focus on empowering everyone there to feel supported, inspired and encouraged to prioritise their physical health and wellbeing. The event was open to women at any stage of the perinatal journey, including women up to 2 years post-partum, those on a fertility journey and women who’ve experienced baby loss.
The day was buzzing with a variety of activities including, professional bite size educational talks, strength and cardio training, yoga, baby workouts and a range of support stalls. But the standout element was the compassion and harmony of the fantastic Defence perinatal community of women.
Our youngest attendee was just 7 weeks old! We hope to see him again at the next Defence Perinatal Festival which is already in the making.
