Defence Christian Network returns to the Defence Academy in Remembrance

The Defence Christian Network (DCN) returned to Hewetson Hall last week to mark Remembrance with their annual Service of Prayer.
Led by Reverend Simon d’Albertanson, Royal Marines Corps Chaplain and Royal Navy Advising Chaplain to the DCN, the Royal Navy led service took the theme of ‘A Secure Anchor’.
The annual service specifically remembered those that lost their lives 20 years ago during Op TELIC in the Gulf, and those that fell 79 years ago during the Normandy Campaign of World War Two.
Among those attending was Légion d’ honneur recipient Cyril ‘Stan’ Ford, who recalled the sinking of his ship, HMS Fratton after it was torpedoed on the morning of the 18 August 1944. The attack resulted in 31 of the 80 strong crew losing their lives. "Those shipmates are with me day and night,” he reflected.
There were performances from the Band of His Majesty's Royal Marines, the Defence Academy Military Wives Choir, and Monique Mcken, BBC Gospel Singer of the Year 2021, and prayers were offered by members of various Defence Christian groups and networks.
The DCN is a quad-service, multi-denominational network for all Christians in Defence. Its mission is to connect, support and inspire Christians across Defence, make a positive Christian contribution to Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) and Whole Force wellbeing, and support MOD engagement with Christians in wider society.
