How long have you worked for Aviva? 13 years
Do you have children/how old are they? I have 2 children, Erin is 6 and Leo is 3.
How did you come to work for [company] in your current role? I worked in the Equity Release Team for just over 12 years where I found many opportunities to progress within the role and become involved in designing new processes and training and accrediting new entrants. I was also able to step into a team leader role where I started overseeing recruitment in the area and then a new opportunity came up for my current role which I was very interested in doing.
Describe an average day, including mornings and evenings:
On an average working day, I get both my children ready, Erin gets ready for school and Leo gets ready to go to either my Mums or Nursery. My Husband takes Leo to where he needs to be and I walk Erin to school. I then travel to work ready to start at 9.30. When I finish work at 5 I travel to pick Leo up and my Husband picks Erin up from the after school club. Once we are all home we all catch up on our days. I then get my children ready for bath and bedtime and myself and my husband read them bedtime stories. Once they are asleep we can then have dinner and relax.
How has Aviva helped you to balance work with family life?
Aviva has been really flexible and since having my children I have been able to work part time, I work 21 hours a week over 3 days. Childcare has been split between my Mum and going to a local Nursery. Since my daughter started school I have been able to take her to school and come into work later and have a shorter lunch break. There is also an option to work from home and change my working days if I needed to. In my current role I also work as a job share with a colleague who is also a Mum with a young son. If the children become ill Aviva also allow emergency family leave.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
This was a new role when I started and I have thoroughly enjoyed developing the role and getting involved in all aspects of recruitment. I enjoy meeting all the candidates when they come in for interview and have the opportunity to make improvements for the future.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about working in your field?
Aviva welcomes new people and from the very moment you join, you are able to share your ideas and get involved in improving things for our customers. There are always opportunities to get involved in new things and progress. My advice would be to come and join Aviva and see what difference you can make.
