Category: Disability (Learning/Mental/Physical), Neurodiversity
We caught up with our amazing colleague, Damien Johnson, who has been at VodafoneThree for 21 years, to talk about how the company's culture supports growth, diversity and inclusion for people, like him, living with disabilities.

Tell us about your career so far at VodafoneThree.
I began as a team manager within Enterprise Technical Support. Over the years, I transitioned into various roles within Service Management, both in the UK and Vodafone Group Enterprise. My extensive experience has allowed me to witness the company's evolution firsthand.
How have you been supported at work by VodafoneThree?
My journey within VodafoneThree has been good. There have been significant improvements in the company's approach to diversity and inclusion. Pre-COVID, I was less open about my dyslexia, but the pandemic brought about a shift. The increased empathy, awareness, and virtual communication have made it easier for employees like me to share their needs and receive the necessary support. I have open conversations with my managers and colleagues to explain that I may need reasonable adjustments, and this helps to make me more productive in my work.
Tell us about VODability
At VodafoneThree we have diversity and inclusion People Networks which raise awareness and provide support. I am an ambassador for VODability, our network for employees with disabilities and within this I have set up the Dyslexia Support Network.
We also run events such as the recent International Day of Disability event in Newbury, where the VodafoneThree pavilion was lit in purple and showcased the company's commitment to inclusivity. The involvement of senior management is particularly great to see, including from CEO Max Taylor, which show VodafoneThree's commitment to being a leading company for disability confidence.
What are your future aspirations at VodafoneThree?
Looking ahead, I’m focused on my personal development, particularly in improving my communication skills. I’m exploring opportunities within VodafoneThree to leverage my experience in service management. From a company perspective, I am excited to see where AI takes us in the future and how we are helping people through the work that we do.
Why should someone with a disability work at VodafoneThree?
Firstly, the company's market-leading position, but also our diverse and inclusive culture, and commitment to employee well-being. VodafoneThree's reasonable adjustment policy and inclusion initiatives support everyone in their working environment which makes it a great place to work. My own journey shows the opportunities and support available at Vodafone.
