Young people have been heavily impacted by the pandemic, making it even more difficult for them to find meaningful work experience and understand more about the careers they want. At Capita we’re taking part in the government’s Kickstart programme, offering six-month placements to 16-24-years-olds in different parts of our business, to give them back the confidence and the opportunity to succeed.
Traditionally, entry-level routes into the workforce have been based on how much access someone has to an education, resources, or contacts who can help secure work experience early. This has put many young people at a disadvantage. We want to make sure that anybody with motivation and potential, regardless of where they’ve come from, has an equal chance to get ahead. Of the Kickstarters working with us already:
41% never went to university
1 in 5 relied on free school meals
60% come from an ethnic minority group
40% are female
🧠 1 in 10 are neurodiverse
Through the scheme, we’re proud to be helping young people feel more confident about the working world, and give them a leg up to becoming future leaders in business. We caught up with three of our Kickstarters, all at different stages in their placements, about their experiences so far. You can check out their videos below:
Phelisa, Administrative Assistant
Chris, Digital Assistant
Gurbir, Youth Employability & Development Coordinator
