Flexible, Family-Friendly Policies at Aviva

First day back at school

In September of our people waved their kids off at the school gates as their children started a new school. It’s a nerve-wracking time for children, parents and carers.

To help, we’re proud to offer our people in the UK half-a-day of leave when they’re child starts a new school.

And many took advantage of this. Here’s some fantastic first day photos and comments from our people.

“A huge thank you to Aviva for making the first day at school just that little bit less stressful. Giving us a half day off to recover from the emotional rollercoaster of a child starting reception is such a lovely gesture. I am thankful almost every day how easy Aviva make it to be able to juggle building a career and being the mum that I want to be gratitude” - Nicola

“So proud of Eli on his first day at High School. Thank you Aviva for the half day to allow me to share it with him.” – Martin

“Thank you Aviva for allowing me time to take my son to school for his first day.” – Maria

“Being able to pick my son up from his first day of school means so much to me. He‘s so excited to have extra Mummy time - and it helps me calm my nerves! So grateful to Aviva for giving me half a day’s leave for this special day.” – Alyson

Our people are important to us, and that’s why we strive to offer them flexible, family-friendly policies. Since 2017, we’ve provided Equal Parental Leave, and have already seen its impact in helping to create an inclusive environment for our modern families.

Since 2018 over 2,500 people at Aviva have now taken Equal Parental Leave, almost half of which (1,227) were men.

“Levelling the playing field will help both mothers and father"

Our Employee Policy Lead, Anthony Fitzpatrick, talks to Employee Benefit Magazine about the benefits of our equal parental leave policy.

In the UK, we offer all our new parents 12 months Parental Leave, with 6 months at full basic pay.

The new school year can be an exciting but nerve-wracking time for the whole family. To help, we offer half a day of leave to Aviva parents in the UK – to help make that first day a little easier.

With one of the great perks of life at Aviva, it’s back to work after 18 fantastic weeks paternity leave. It’ll be a change of pace from running after these two! But after 2 years working from home it will be great to meet old (and new) colleagues in person in the (hopefully) post-pandemic world.
