We’re marking 50 years of Pride this month by celebrating colleague role models who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. Our colleague, Michelle Abraham shares her story:
A lot of people express the view that sexuality isn’t work related, but it really is. Working for an employer who is diverse and inclusive is the difference between someone being their authentic selves at work and hiding completely who they really are.
Can you imagine having to hide who you really are for 1/3 of your week every week for 50+ years?
Myself and my wife are so fortunate to work for employers where we can be our authentic selves and not be judged negatively for it, not everyone is so blessed.
Pride month is so important, it might be 2022 but we still have so far to come in terms of changing attitudes and behaviours, yes we have come a long way but our community still gets hate daily.
Choose 2022 to be the year you are an ally, join a march, share/like posts, and change your pronouns on your profile/email signature.
All the small things are what will make big changes.
