At Brit, a key part of our mental health strategy is to encourage and normalise conversations about mental health and to also raise awareness of and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health conditions.
Last month to mark Suicide Prevention Day, we hosted a webinar in collaboration with The Listening Place. The COO Helen Hopper kindly joined Caroline Beardsell, our Head of Business Insight, to present a session to Brit employees about the work of The Listening Place.
Suicide kills around 18 a day in the UK. Most of those who die have sought but not found support and help. Suicide is the major single cause of death in men under the age of 49 in the UK, and there is an alarming increase in suicidal intentions amongst women.
The Listening Place are made up of an award-winning team of volunteers who offer free, confidential and ongoing face-to-face listening, by appointment, to people who feel that life is no longer worth living.
Hear from Caroline, who regularly volunteers at The Listening Place, below.
