Black History Month – 1-31 October 2019; 60 seconds with… Kenny Ebanks
What is your role with British Athletics?
I am a Starter and Starters assistant (marksman). I also do other roles including working in the call room, registration and operating the false start equipment.
What does Black History Month mean to you?
It gives an opportunity to focus in and bring to the forefront those individuals or groups of colour who have made a contribution (regardless of its size) to British and world history.
What black individual do you most admire in history?
I admire Basil D'Oliveira as his struggle to play cricket at the highest level partly contributed to the sporting boycott of South Africa and could be argued contributed to the ending of apartheid in South Africa.
What is a fact about you most people would not know?
I've had dinner with Muhammad Ali (and Will Smith) in Miami. He was making the film of his life at the time.
