Nearly eight weeks ago a group of likeminded friends and allies came together to plan and deliver our sessions for Black History Month 2022 in DWP. I have been inspired by their enthusiasm, commitment, and passion to not only tell their lived experiences but look at how those from ethnic minority communities have contributed to the Department and wider society on equality.
The theme this year is “Time for Change: Action not words” – to enable us to get to a better tomorrow, we can’t just focus on the past because the past is in the past. We must acknowledge and learn from it but to improve the future we need action and not words.
These last three years we have seen some significant changes in how DWP addresses race equality, from the establishment of a Race Programme Board to sustained action in each part of the Department, but we have so much more to do.
