Aviva Communities: bridging the gap across generations

Insurance company Aviva has five generations in the workplace. That’s created a real need, and innovative approach, to ensure its workforce’s wide range of skills is protected and that’s one of the reasons the Aviva Generations Community was created. It’s focus is to bridge the age gap to help Aviva make the most of experienced staff.
All ages welcome
Aviva Generations Community co-chair Andrea Woodhouse says that the group’s motto is “age is no barrier to opportunity”. The group encourages inclusivity so that all members of staff feel able to be themselves in a supportive environment.
While the group has its roots in the promotion of inclusivity for older workers, Andrea says that it has a focus on staff of all ages. “We are a community for all ages - not just older workers.”
Andrea also notes that although the group is fairly new, it has lots planned: “We’ve built our steering committee, allocating specific roles to the other members and ‘launched’ during National Inclusion Week. We’re also planning a week of events in the first quarter of 2019. I’m keen to use the community as a launch pad for raising awareness of menopausal issues.”
