This is a photo of Karen (left), who works in our Accounts Payable and Treasury team with her mum, Joyce (right). Taken on holiday last year, their first abroad for 10 years.
Prior to this Karen was splitting her time between visiting her dad who had dementia and was in a care home and supporting her mum who had also developed health issues.
Karen says: “After my dad sadly passed away mum came to live with me. Whilst she was still very independent, and now in remission from a second cancer diagnosis, she was struggling with some aspects of living alone and had started to lose her hearing.
Over the past year, I’ve really noticed how things have taken their toll, mum gets tired very quickly and can’t walk far, so can’t get to the doctors under her own steam.
Taking advantage of the Aviva Carer policy means I can take mum to her appointments without having to worry about making up the time. I make up the time if I can, but if I can’t, Aviva meets me half-way and that’s brilliant, giving me 35 hours a year for caring duties.
This policy means that my holiday is just that – MY HOLIDAY – time I can spend together with mum doing things we enjoy rather than being in stuck in doctor’s waiting rooms!”
