Let’s bust a few myths on apprenticeships.
Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study, enabling you to learn the theory and then apply it practically in your role. DCMS fully cover the cost of any apprenticeships and provide you with 20% of your time “off the job” to be spent dedicated to your apprenticeship work.
There are so many apprenticeships available at DCMS ranging from Level 3 (the equivalent of GCSEs) to Level 7 (the equivalent of a Masters Degree) qualifications. Examples of some of the apprenticeships on offer at DCMS include:
We spoke to Danielle at DCMS about the Level 5 HR Consultant apprenticeship she is currently undertaking:
“The apprenticeship is providing me with a breadth of HR knowledge enabling me to become a well rounded HR professional. I am currently in Recruitment but the apprenticeship is giving me the opportunity to learn about other areas of HR which I know will support my future career aspirations.
The benefit of an apprenticeship is that it encourages you to put the theory and knowledge into practice in your day-to-day role. It encourages you to be more proactive in seeking out shadowing and development opportunities, improving your network and developing your experience.
Overall, I would describe the apprenticeship to be a fantastic development opportunity and I have certainly grown in my capability and credibility since starting.”
